Leonard Bernstein introduces four young pianists, Paul Schoenfield, Stepanie Sebastian, David Oei and Horacio Gutierrez, who each play a section of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” followed by three young conductors, James De Preist, Jacques Houtmann and Edo de Waart, who conduct Ravel’s orchestrations of the same pieces. In this excerpt, Bernstein introduces James DePriest, who conducts the “Promenade & Gnomus” from Ravel’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Original CBS Television Network Broadcast Date: February 22, 1966.
